Texas rancher Don Edwards spent several years researching and compiling the songs that comprise the excellent Songs of the Trail.
Each tune on the album is an old cowboy song that was well-known at the turn of the century.
Edwards' delivery is spare, emotional and powerful -- these songs don't sound like artifacts, they sound alive.
It's one of the rare historical releases that is as entertaining as it is educational.
